It was decided at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Jockay Club last night to institute a vigorou9 campaign for new niembsrs so as to strengthen the bulwarks of the Club and enable it to make the race meiting one of the best held ia the province outside the metropolitan area. A number of residents of Greerton in various ways raised the sum of £6 18s, which has been handed over to the Bay of Plenty Hospital and Charitable Aid Board as a donation towards the Tauranga Hospital. Mr A W Caimichael. representing the Tauranga Agricultural and Pastoral Association, waited upon the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club last night and requested the latter to cooperate with' the Association in asking the Manager of the Northern Steamship Company to lix the excursion fares from Auck • land to Tauranga ia connection with the show and races at not more than Sll ss. In reply to Mr G. W. Brown, Mr Carmichael said the (juestion of holding the show on the day prior to the races wss to be considered, aud he thought the change would be agreed to. The Jockey Club unanimously decided that if the show be held on the day before the races the Club will join with the Associatian in making representations to the Northern Steam ship Company asking that the excursion fares should not exceed £1 s*.
