At the Magistrates Court yesterday moroin<* J Bryer* was fined £2, with ?,osts 17s, in default fourteen day's imprisonment, for using obscene language in Wharf Ftreet.

The auxiliary scow Kahu (Captain McLellan) arrived from Auckland yesterday with a cargo of coal for Gammans Tauranga Limited, and a quantity of iron work for the dredge that is to be utilised in the drainage operations in the Waihi Swamp.

A letter was read at the last meeting of tho Connty Council from Hon W H Herries, who acknowledged letter forwarding copy of a resolution sent to the Postmaster-General, urging that the Post and Telegraph regulations be amended to allow telephone exchanges with from thirty to fifty subscribers to be open between the hours of Bam and 8 pm, iustead of 9a m and op m as at present. Mr Herries stated: "I bave to inform you that I have received a memorandum in reply to the representations made by me to the Hon Postmaster General to the effect that it has be^n decided to amend the regulations to provide for tbe additional atfendance to be given, on the whole of the subscribers agreeing to pay each an additional fee of £1 per annum. This amount it is estimated will barely cover the cost to the Department of the extra attendance." The Post and Telegraph Department also forwarded a letter on the same lines as tbe reply received from the Minister for Railways. —The communications were received.

In connection with the football match at Te Puke tomorrow the Rugby Union has arranged for the Sybil to leave the Town Wharf at 12 15 pm, and a special train will leave the Mount for Te Puke at at 130 returning at 5 30. The return fare by the launch is Is, and by train 2s for adults and Is 6d for school boys.

The Tauranga District High School will play a football match with the Te Puke School to morrow, commenc ing at 130 pin.
