British newpapers are unanimous in applauding the Grand Duke's service and await an explanation concerning his transference to the Caucasus' The Daily Chronicle says the position of the Grand Duke ia puzzling, despite the Czar's rescript. It seems that he has been side-tracked to the Caucasus, and Germany is likely to rejoice and will believe that the Grand Duke has failed. This is grievously unjust to a very, very gifted and unselfish Russian. Tho failure is due to the lamentable inadequacy of munitions. The Grand Duke Nicholas had also to contend with corrupt contractors and treason.

The Morning Post's Petrograd correspondent says it is no secret that many attempts were made to remove the Grand Duke Nicholas from command by violence and it is known that the Germans instigated some of the tactics.
