SERIOUS HUT UNAVOIDABLE
London, March 2 Mr Winston Churchill, First-Lord of the Admiralty, in introducing the Supplementary Naval Estimates providing for an expenditure of £2,500,----000, said it was a serious event but unavoidable. The increase in the oil reserves had cost halt' a million, and there was now suiticient on hand for a triennium of peace or a year's war. The acceleration of battleships to cover the delay in tlie provision of the Canadian ships accounted for .£-130,000, aud quicker work by contractors for" a million.
