FRENCH PRIESTS DEATH
Paris. August 7. The trial of Mine. Crespy, an authoress, on. a charge of-shoot-
ing* a priest named (Jhassning, engrosses public attention here. Medical evidence was called to prove that it was impossible for the priest to have shot himself, though one doctor conskl 1 ered it was not impracticable. The bishop of the district gave evidence that the reason for the deceased's transfer was not in the nature "of disgrace^ but rather, was promotion. As Mme. Crespy was proceeding to
prison iron, court a mob of women threw refuse at her and "assailed her with bitter epithets The judge has received numerous letters urging him to send Crespy to the guillotine. -Tho jury has also been threatened with violence ii they acquit the woman. The evidence yesterday went mainly to show that Abbe Chassaino- was unlikely to
commit suicide. One witness tesfied that the Abbe told him that Mme. Crespy pestered him.
