AVIATION ACCIDENTS
TWO ME]\ KILLED.
London, August t.
Mr S. F. Cody, the wellknown Fnglish airman, was killed today. His sons Leon and Frank witnessed the accident. Leon had intended to accompany his father, but gave way at the last minute. Mr Evans, of the Indian Civil Service, who is learning.aviation, accompanied Mr Cody. He says the new hydroplane which was flown earlier in the morning, appeared to double up, the wings shooting upwards, and while collapsing—when 250 feet above the ground—owing to the body being too heavy for the wings, Mr Cody flung himself from the machine before it 1 reached the ground where the Barnardo boys were camping. The hydroplane was badly smashed. The horrified spectators found, that Mr Cody's neck was broken and extricated Evans, who was badly mangled, from the debris. Colonel Seely has* sent a message of sympathy to Mrs Cody and eulogised her husband's services. Victoria, August 7. An aviator named Bryan, while Hying during the naval regatta, fell 300 ft, when over the city, hitting the roof of a building, and was killed instantly. The machine collapsed during a tricky wind.
