MONTHLY MINTING

B. Shearman, To*?n Clerk, wrote re storage of explosives and dangerous goods, lie stated the Borough Council will be pleased to hear what steps the Boaid purpose taking as to proper storage of dangerous i';.):.ds, in accordance with the Act. He pointed out that at present danger-
ous goods are being stored within the
Borough and such arrangements can not be allowed to exist. He concluded: "Your immediate attention to this matter is requested, a.i it 13 very

It was decided—That the Executive tommittee^confer with the Bi rough Council on die subject and report to the next roeeting. —Offer to Lease a Reserve. The Manager of the Whikamarama Land and Timber Co., Ltd., applied for 21 years' lease, with right of re-
newal, of the Board's reserve at le
Puna Point opposite Mr Land's farm for tha purpose .of building a wharf and timber yard thereon. Tney stated they had written to and interviewed
the Marine Department in Wellington, who are prepared to sanction the erection of the wharf whenever the company forward a letter from the Board agreeing to same. The Company stated they have three hundred ions of steel rails, etc., and a large engine on the way out from England, and said the? would e9teem it a great favour it the application were granted as early as possible.
The Chairman pointed out that the residents of the district desired that a certain portion of the area be reserved for their.us?.
Mr Adams moved—That the Marine Department be written to stating that this Board raises no objection to the occupation in the meantime by the Whfckamarama Land t and Timber Company of the Te Puna landing reserve, but suggests that no lease be granted until the reserve and foreshore have been duly vested in tiie Board. ■•Seconded by Mr McEwen and carried.
-■Harbourmaster's Report. Captain C. J. Millar, harbourmaster, reported that owing to complaints lodged re obstructions in certain rivers he hqd written to:
Mr E. Gledstaoes, Kalikati, re pine tree fqllen from his property. Unaerstands obstruction is still there.
Messrs D. J. McEwen and Geraghty, Kaituna River, 're flax refuse. Understands nuisance has abated since writing.
Mr Moses, re willows, Waimapu Kiver. So far no notice taken by him.
The Harbourmaster stated that he has staked the Waimapu river as far as Hairini Bridge and taken out two large snags withojt cost to the Board.
■ Captain Kenendy, of the Northern S.S. Co,, has staked tin; Uretara Kiver as tar as the entrance to the estuary, but he petitions the Board tv do same in ''the mangroves" steamer and boat channels. This is badly wanted; estimated cost about £0 to £8. -
The Harbourmaster stated he has assisted the Secretary in collecting sundry berthage fee 3.
Coptain Millar also reported that he had received requests from owners of
vessels plying on the Wairoa River
to stake the entrance
He has inter-
viewed the management of Gamman's,
Ltd., re timber for same. This the company will be pleased to supply to the Board gratis if the Board will do
the work
He had also received a
similar request from the master of
the Kaituna about "the mangroves'' channels. This work id badly needed, as very few stakes of those put in h\\
years ago are left otan-Jing, ant] the
channels have considerably
altered
since then. £10 should be ample to do
both jobs well.
'Ihe Harbourmaster also submitted a diagram explaining a cheap appliance for ii^htiii^ buoys in t.ie main
channel.
Mr K. 11. viledc-tanes, Katikati
wrote stating he had received a letter from the Harbourmaster, requesting hira to remove a pine tree obstruction from the entrance to the LJretara River. Mr Gledstanes stated there was no pine tree in the river, aad said it was possible Mr Millar refers to a small tree - not ;i pine-about 100 yards above the entrance.
Mr Adams said there was an obstruction in the river and if bhould be rumoved. He thought it emjld be
