Bay of Plenty Times. FRIDAY, JUNE 6, 1913. STOCK PADDOCK
County stockowncrs will bu pleased to know that Iho Comity v.ouncil has decided to approach the Minister of Lands ior a grant ot : Lloo for the purpose of leneiug- and g-j-assijiw; i I a stock paddock on ihoinpsoJt s J rack upon a site which j Has been reservedly the Department for the holding of stock travelling between the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. The stock trade, between these two districts has now reached considerable volume, and it is estimated that many thousands of cattle are driven over Thompson's Track every year. Owners ol stock have loult advocated that accommodation for stock should be provided on the route, and the County Council in making a request for a grant are acting in the best interests
of many of their constituents. The movement of cattle/between the coast and inland districts has a healthy effect on the cattle market, as it means that outside, buyers periodically visit the various sales, with the result that their presence invariably leads to keen competition, with a consequent benefit to the cattle owners, especially the small owners in each locality. The Government invariably provides holding-yards at nearly all railway stations, and it is not asking too much that something should be done for the graziers and stockowners in our county, hundreds ol whom receive, little or no benefit from the railway system. The present Government is considered to be thoroughly in sympathy with the farming community,
and if the Minister of Lands is able to sco his way clear to accede to the request of the County Council such action would meet with the approbation of a lai'ue body of landholders both in the AVaikato and Bay of Plenty.
