PERSONAL NOTES.

Mr W. A. Thorn will pay an official visit to Maketu on Saturday August 17.

We regret to announce the death ol Mrs H. T. Hall, mother of Mr - T H. Hall, of this tcwn, which occurred, at Nelson yesterday.

Mr J. Roberts (elder son of Licut.Colonel Roberts, S.M.), of the Auckland staff of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present spending a holiday with his relatives in Tauranga.

Captain A. G. Turner was appointed engineer to the Tauranga County Council at the meeting of that body held yesterday. There were twelve applicants, residing in various parts of the colony, for the position, and we congratulate the Countil on having chosen Captain Turner, a gentleman who commands the esteem of all; who know him in the Tauranga, To Puke and Katikati districts, and where, needless to say, ho claims a large circle of acquaintances.

The Rev. W. H. Bawden, Vicar of St. John's parish, Te Puke, has resigned his present charge and has been appointed by- the Bishop of Waiapu to the charge of St. Stephen's, Opotiki. Mr Bawden expects to enter upon his new duties shortly. The Bishop is making arrangements to till the vacancy at Te Puke caused by Mr •Bawden 'B resignation. During bis residence in Te Puke Mr Bawden has proved himself very popular with all sections of the community, irrespective of creed, and has been a most zealous worker in his large parish. Th addition, he took a great interest in many matters tending to the general welfare of the residents. Needless to say. the' news of his departure has been received- with feelings of the greatest regret both by members of his own. congregation and all others who claimed the pleasure of his acquaintance, and we join, with them in wishing) him the best of success in his new sphere.
