KATIKATI ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of th« abovo was held in the Hall, X*& kati, at 3.15 p.m. on Saturday 1 4th inst. Preeent :— Messrs g! V. Btewart, J.P., in the Chair , Wilson, Taylor, M. J. The Colonial Secretary inquired as to Board's debt. — Nil. The Government printer sent receipt for balauce for Kauri Gum books. [ From Assistant Surveyor-. General, that Messrs Walnasley's . grievance would be further mii quired into. » . From Mr 8. Walrnsley, warmly thanking the Board and saying ; some 20 acres had been offered by , the Land Board, of the confiscated farm to safeguard the chief improvements effected. The Supervising Valuer inquired as to unregistered transfer! , or mortgages. — Dealt with by , Hon. Clerk in Auckland. ; The Tauranga County Clerk ■ wrote as to collection of rates in > arrears, and forwarded list of rate* payers as requested in Katik&ti ■ , Outlying. — Action deferred pend« ing expected receipt of a petition, through the County Council, that , these ratepayers have their rates remitted permanently. The Whakatane County Clerk 1 and Chairman sent assurance of sympathy as to Waikino Hospital site. Dr MacGregor acknowledged ft letter on the same matter. Bank certificates for £11 ss* deposit and*£l 13a 4d audit fee, also advertising account from B.P. Times.-— Received. Mr Kelly inquired as to rater due.— Seen to by Hon. Clerk. Mr Herries regretted no grant was made for Uretara wharf, the reason being that Tauranga was already well supplied with wharf accommodation. He sent the Marine Department's letter as a valuable curio. A letter from the Chairman was approved on the motion of Messrs M. J. Stewart and Wilson, asking Mr Cadman to lunoh at Katikati when, as promised, going over Thompson's track, and making a reqaettt for further road grants for Katikati in continuance of the policy started by letter of Nov. 2nd 1895 and since kept forward. Mr Cad man replied very kindly returning thanks for the invitation and promised further substantial grant for the Gorge and £l for £1 for Waihi Beach road, if pushed along before his final retirement from office. The Chairman had further written to the Premier asking for a grant toward a gnarantee for a resident doctor in Katikati.—Approved. Church Hill tenders had been opened as follows: — H. M. Stewart, £5 5s , J. Lockington, £4 19s lifd; Jon. Tanner, £4 J4s, (accepted). The report of the Committee was adopted. Certificates were passed for payment far H. M. Stewart £4, and Jonathan Tanner, £1 9 143.—'Certificate forH. Tanner for £3 for unauthorised work was received and £2 was ordered to be paid on the understanding that it was no precedent fcr payment for such work. Mr Boyd reported a good road could be made to Mr C. Macmi Han's property for £5 ss, through Mr Andrew's land.—Deferred pending reply from Mr Andrews to request for right of way. Pakiwaha road repair*, Ciaremont road repairs and Matflhui road repairs were ordered to some £30. Tender* returnable at next rnw*tin£, on Nov. 4th. T« Mania bridge, was dismissed at some length. Mr Boyd was directed to prepare specifications for a suitable bridge if the m-i---'l'nte would provide th« labour required and pay a small allowance for supervision, if necessary.
