A meeting of the Stewards was Held in the Tauranga Hotel on Tuesday, 10th February, at 4 tun. Present :— Got Dowell, (Chairman), Dr Forbes, Messrs Cramer Roberto, Raymond, D. London, and Te Mite. The nrinites of last meeting were read and confirmed. , The chairman stated that the subscriptions amounted to about £40, and thrt be had written to the chairman of the County Coulicil, requesting to be allowed to use the Race-course on Easter Monday. The answer. he had received was, that there were certain arrears of rates due, amountin£ to\4>lo 12s Ud, besides a judgment, and that this amount would have to ha paid before the use of the Course could be given. For it was only a short time since the Council wanted to get the Race-course Recreation ground for a pasturage, in view of the Meat Freeiing Works. Capt JEerr also wrote at the same time to the Government, asking that the Recreation grounds be vested in Trustees in the names of Capti, Kerf, Johnstone, and Mr Lever. The Go*vernmcnt replied that the Race-course would be vested in the County Council. Capt' Kerr then wrote again to the Govern* ment asking that i» certain portion be vested for the benefit of the Greertdn residents. Mr Lewis wrote in reply that as soon aa the resignation of the five Trustees was setit in, we Race-course would be gaaetted and vested in the Council. He understood that the Trustees had agreed to resign except Capt Morris, who refused to resign till after the Election. After some discussion, it was resolved that the chairman should write to the Government asking for the use of the Race-course on Easter Monday. A letter was read from Mr Percival* the secretary of the Auckland Jockey Club, stating that the races could be run under, the rules of the Auckland Jockey Club, and referred them to rules 31; 32, 23, and -24.., •. . , ■ ■ , >: , . . . It was resolved. that the following programme should be advertised :— 1. Maiden Race ; for horses which have never won public money ; distance limile, 2. Hack Race ; distance 1 mile. Maori Pony Bace } for horses owned and ridden by Maoris ; catch weights j distance 1 mile j height 14-2 hands and under. 8. Consolation Race ; for, all beaten horses at the; meeting ; dutanoe 1 ntte. Te Mete said on behalf of the Wairpa Maoris that they would give £5 out of their racing funds.
