FOOTBALL.
Yesterday (Thursday) afternoon on the Domain ground was piayed afootball match between the A and B teams, the former captained by Mr H. Tanner and the latter by* Mr J. C. Webster. After one of the best matches ever witnessed on the ground the B team won by two goals and two tries to a goal, kicked from the field by Maxwell. There w;as a marked improvement in the play throughout the game, especially in the forward department. The dribbling was very successful; yet there a few forwards inclined to pick up the ball when a dribble has been started, and, of course, spoiling their own side's chance. It is very annoying at times to see a player fairly collared and the ball held, struggling to free himself again, using up his strength and wasting everybody's time. It is a pity that rules should be ignored^ Of the players it Would be hard to pick out any that did not play their hardest. S. Tanner, without exception, played the game of the day, securing four tries, the only ones for his side. His collaring was also much admired, never missing his man. F. Maxwell, in the forward, played a sterling and cool game. The goal potted from the field by him was a very difficult one, being at the time surrounded. For the A team, H. and J. Tanner, Maxwell, Turner, W. and H. Mansel, worked hard and required much watching. The B team found good men in S. Tanner, as mentioned before, and Robinson, as full-back, who saved his side on many occasions.
