SYDNEY, Jan. 28
The train wrecked at Cootamandra contained among the passengers a number of bookmakers. All escaped with slight injuries. The Jculverfc which collapsed was fifty yards wide and nine deep. The carriages were precipitated into the gap, and. fairly dammed the creek. Several persons were washed down the stream, and others were killed by the force of the concussion. Several miraculous escapes are reported. The Minister of Railways and the leading officials are now at the scene of the disaster. Several bodies have been recovered.
Later.
Several of the sufferers have been removed to Goulburn, while others remain as Cootamandra. One injured man, named Bergen, is not expected to recover. The,, wreck of, the train represents a terrible scene. An inquest has been opened on the bodies of the killed, but has been adjourned.
Latest,
The sufferers are progressing favourably, but it is feared some are still
missing. The cricket match between Shaw's Eleven and the New South Wales team resulted, in a victory for the visitors by an innings and 34 runs. In their second innings the home team scored 118.
