(from our own correspondent.) The Grey Reception. Auckland, Last Night. Sir George Grey is expected here next Eriday. He is to be recieved by the Mayor and Corporation on the wharf. I Sir Ceorge's Speech. I At an open-air meeting- he said that though he was not the representative of the district, he was nevertheless a representative of the whole colony. At whatever post he might be, when he obtained a liberal franchise, he would see that the constituencies were fair in size, with no pocket boroughs enabling the wealthy to dominate. The wealthy should be made to contribute in proportion to the benefits they received. Those who derived but few benefits should have their burdens lightened. The natives should be allowed full value for their land, with market open to Europeans at large. Mr SheeharTs Speech. Mr Sheehan, who spoke briefly, said that next session they would propose their liberal measures, and if they found themselves before the age, and that the House was not equal to the requirements of tbe times, tho House should go to the country. Lord Normanby, while willing to make the first appointment, declined to make the other.
