The Butter Supplies.
The position in regard*to butter in Dunedin Ins mt improved: indeed, it is not so favou-able, for the shortage is more marked tlnn it was last weik, and grocers have not nearly enough to supply the demmds of their customers, Little relief can be loDked for until the first week in September. At.Christdiurch the supplies are fairly 'ow.and three of the Christchurch butter factores have instituted a system of restricted sales, with the intention of tiding themselves over the winter until the new season's butter i; available. There is no prospect of a shartage at Christchurch unless householders or grocers become panicky -and start overstocking. The cause of the scarcity is due to a large extent to the failure of autumn and winter supplies in Auckland, which upset the Government estimates : but late advices from the North Island show that an extraordinary early spring is being experienced in'many parts, with every prosp ct of a good milk supp'y.
