Honoring Departing Soldiers.

Private Thomas Dooley, of Springfield district, who is down on final leave, was entertained at a complimentary social in Tokoiti Hall last Friday evening, when there was a la-ge attendance, Mr Wm. Tweedio presiding. Dancing was indulged in with keen enjoyment, to music supplied by Meßsrs P. Boyle. A. Byars, John Gibb (piano) John Walsh and O. J. Bobinson (violin), the chairman officiating aa Master of Ceremonies. A brief programme was given at intervals in the dancing, duets being contributed by the Misses Rekowski, Mißßea Robertson and Woodhouae, recitation by Miss E. Hamilton, and songs by "Massra J. Salmond, P. Boyle and R, Allißon. On behalf of Private Doolay's many friendß Mr Jno. R. Wilson, in appropriate terms, presented the departing soldier with a wristlet watch, set of military brushes, and pocket wallet. Short appreciative addresses were also given by Messrs C. J. Robinson and John Salmond, after which Private Dooley suitably responded, Refreshments were provided by the ladies, and dancing was resumed after sapper, and continued until the early hours of the morning,

Opportunity was also taken by hia fellow-workers on Mr Jas. Hamilton's threshing mill to present Private Dooley with a fountain pen and Auto-stror uafety razor. Messrs Wm. Tweedie and T. Hynes acted as spokesmen in expressing their beßt wishes for the recipient's future welfare,

Between 30 and 40 personal friends of Private Thomas M'lntosh (Tokoiti district), who is on final leave, assembled at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday night, to do him honor, and wish him "Good lack." Mr P. Porter presided, and on behalf of Private M'lntoßh's many friends presented him with a wristlet watoh, safety- razor, two razorb. and a purse containing a goodly Bum—the balance of the funds col'ected, Appreciative remarks were also made by Messrs M. W. Fleming, G. A. Lilburne John Cooper, Wm Tweedie, and W. Millar. The recipient suitably replied, and hi* father (Mr Jno. B. M'lntosh) acknowledged the kindly references which had been made to " Tom " being the third of his sons to answer the Empire's call.

At the close of the service in the Methodist Ohuroh last evening, Mr W. H. Hitchon, on behalf of the congregation, presented Private F. O, Clark, who has been home on private leave, with an illuminated wristlet watch. Mr Hitchon made appreciative reference to Private Clark's life-long connection with the Church, mentioning particularly his sere vices in the Sunday School and ohoira The speaker trusted that the watch would remind the reoipient, while on active duty, of the. good wishes of his Methodist Wends in Milton, After Private Clark had suitably replied, the meeting closed with the National Anthem. Private Clark left Milton for Trentham this morning,
