THE FRENCH NEWSPAPERS.

GOVERNMENT CONTROLS SIZE In order to economise in paper it was decided, at a Cabinet meeting this morning that the Drench daily papers mut reduce the number of their _ pages on certain days (stated tho Paris correspondent of 'The Daily Mail' on February 9.) The Paris 'Daily Mail,' the 'Figaro,' the 'Gaulois,' and the 'Temps' will from the loth inst. be restricted to four pages every day excepting Mondays, when they must be conhned to two pages. The 'xUatin,' the 'Journal,' the 'Petit Parisien,' the 'Petit Journal,' and other halfpenny papers of similar size may print only two pages on Monday and Thursday and lour pages on other days. Journals of smaller dimensions are allowed to consist of four pages every day. There will be similar retrictions on the illustrated papers. These limitations also apply to all newspapers printed in Algeria The difference between the French and English newspapers is that English journals do an immense amount of Government propaganda work for war loans,'man and woman" power, food arrangements, and the like, and publish important official advertisements concerning the war. This is not done through the newspapers in France.
