AN AMBULANCE WAGGON.

WANTED FOE THE DISTEICT,

Br Brugh has'been interesting himself recently in a movement worthy of attention. It is the procuring of an nmbu lance waggon lor the town and district. Heveral instances have come under his professional notice 7 of increased sufferng.being inflicted on those who, through accident or illness, have to come into the town for more regular medical treatment, or be removed to the Dunedin Hospital. We ourselves know of more than one instance where serious results have been caused through the jolting in a buggy or road'express in which an injured person was being conveyed. The distressing accident of last week need only lie mentioned to show the necessity of having some adequate vehicle. Li this case an aged lady, seriously injured, had to be conveyed from Fincgand to Balclutlia in a road waggon. At the last meeting of the borough council Or Brugh wrote suggesting that vonr.'. .stops be taken to procure an ambulance waggon for the district. The council decided to confer with the county votincil, but delay was piled on delay, ati({ nothing was done except the county council agreeing to make inquiries as to what assistance the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board would give. Dr Brugh has not been inactive, however. On Tuesday night he convened a meeting of the local ambulance associations, when the problem of raising the necessary money was discussed. An open-air concert by the band has been promised, the proprietary of the Band Hall Pictures wilj give the proceeds of one entertainment, and a Bruce auction will be held. As the use of the waggou will be more for country people than townsfolk, It is confidently expected that Glutha and Bruce County Councils will contribute, together with the borough council, towards the cost, while a donation, from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board is also expected. By the above mentioned means quite sufficient should be gathered to enable the district to get this most necessary acquisition in the interests of humanity. Wo wholly approve of the movement, and will render whatever assistance we cau.
