"ELIXIR OF LIFE."

DR DOYEN'S DISCOVERY. The discovery of the "elixir of long life" was announced by the famous surgeon, Dr Doyen, in a lecture delivered m Paris the other evening. The inventor calls his elixir "mycolysine," becauso it dissolves germs. He pointed out that if it wore possible to increase tenfold the activity of the phagocytes (the organisms which absorb the poisons in the blood) the resistance of the human body would lie considerably augmented and the majority of infectious diseases would disappear. This problem Dr Doyen declared he had solved by the discovery of phagogenous colloides, which are the basis of mycolysine. If employed rationally, he said, mycolysine would do away with the majority of infectious diseases, notably those of the respiratory organs, digestive tubes and skin. This discovery, the lecturer added, meant considerable prolongation of life. Taken in conjunction with the new treatment of tuberculosis and cancer by his own phagogenous method and the healing of external cancers by electro-coagulation, it almost realised the hopes of the ancient alchemists. Dr Hall Edwards, the X-ray martyr, stated that the new treatment of cancer by to Ins mind by far the most significant and' interesting topic at the rhysio-thera-poutic Congress. An elcctro-coagular tion machine shown by the inventor, Dr Franz Nagelschmidt, of Berlin, has two electroids which when applied to the body coagulate by heat the tissues between the electroids, totally destroying all the germs and leaving the rest of the surface unaffected. The treatment is quite painless, "tho patient only feeling a sensation as of warm watar being poured 011 to- tlie part treated."
