Clutha lost all its matches by default.

TOKO I v. WAIWERA-CLYDEVALE. Toko had some difficulty in raising a , full team to meet Waiwera-Clydevale at Balclutha on Saturday, and two mem« bers of tho " Dreadnoughts" were called on to make the full complement. These were two three-quarter backs— H. Curran and H. Crossgrove— and they showed promise of becoming firstraters, Delargy's inclusion in the backs strengthened the team ; altough it was his first game he played very well. F. Reid was once more missing, In the first spell Toko, who had an easy thing on right through the game, only scored twice. Directly after the start Curran, from a good passing rush, drew first blood. Later on C. Lane also scored. In this spell Edwards registered Clydevale's only try in the game. In the second spell tries were notched by Hislop (2), Gregory, and Clark, the latter's being the unusual event of a full-back scoring. Crawford kicked a penalty goal. There were no tries converted. Most of Toko's scoring was got from passing rushes The final scores were —

Toko 2 ipts Wai,-Clydevale 3pts. i Air Shanks gave every satisfaction as referee, TOKO II v, KAITANGATA. 11. This match was played on the Kaitangata ground, which, to put it mildly, was not fit for football. About the middle of the first spell T. Sharp kicked a penalty goal for • the home team. Hatton was within an ace of scoring, but was foully blocked by a Kai back. In the second spell Toko had the better of the contest, and several times looked like scoring. Sharp, however, adopted the winning tactic of marking, and the greater portion of the spell was spent in this and scrumming, W. Littlcjohn dribbled over the line once, and apparently fell on the ball first, but the referee was not in the position to judge as to what it was, and ruled a scrum five yards from the line. The game all through, owing to the greasy ball and bad state of the ground, was a poor exhibition of football. Time was called with the score Kaitangata 3pts Toko nil.

Mr L. Edwards was a most impartial and painstaking referee. His only decision questioned was when Little 3 john's try was claimed, and under the circumstances his ruling would no' have been fair if he had awarded a score which he could not say was rightly secured or not, Kaitangata I. defeated Owaka I at Owaka on Saturday by Bpts to 6pts. The result practically leaves Kaitangata winners of the Banner for this year.
