The funeral takes place to-day. A correspondent draws attention to the fact that lie saw some men working near the midcllo of tho railway, bridge 0110 day this weolc without the precaution of a boat being handy, Considering the fatal accident that occurred there a few years ago when a young man named Napier fell oil' and was drowned, he thinks it very careless that the precaution then considered necessary should not bo observed.

Mr James Simpson, formerly of tho Clutha Leader, and now of tho Timaru Post, has just had a claim for £l5O damages successfully, settled out of court. Some two or three months ago Air Simpson was cycling down to work in the evening, when an alleged furiously-driven motor-car met him in violent contact, ' and the result was that j\lr Simpson had to spend seven weeks in rather a quiet fashion.
