Waitahuna Notes.

On Tuesaay evening the Rev, J. S. Ponder gave the members of his church a social evening and lecture in Carmady's Hall. There was a large attendance. The children were there on pleasure bent, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The meeting took the form of a lecture on Japan and the Japanese, and was illustrated with a number of very beautifully-colored views put on the screen by Rev. R. S. Allan, of Lawrence. Mr Ponder's lecture was very interesting, and lasted for fully an hour, Needless to say it was listened to with rapt attention. At the conclusion of the lecture Miss Ponder and her half-dozen lieutenants, adorned in Japanese dresses, dispensed tea, sandwiches, and cakes in a bouhti. ful manner. A very pleasant and profitable evening was brought to a close about 9.15. Mr R, M'Caw proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Ponder for his kindness, and on the motion of Mr J. H. Patrick a similar vote of thanks was accorded Mr Alien and Miss Ponder.
