MEETING OF SYMPATHY.

On Saturday night a meeting of sympathisers with the widow of the late Mr James Fahey was- held in the Council Chambers, a large number being present. The Mayor (Mr W. Moore) occupied the chair, and briefly explained the objects of the meeting. He said that as Mrs Fahoy was left in rather poor circumstances he thought that it was only right and proper that they should help her in some way. i The Very Rev. Father O'Neill, Messrs D. Reid, and H. M. Driver also addressed the meeting, and referred in kindly terms to the late Mr Fahey, both as a man and as a farmer ; and to the widow, Mrs Fahey, as a hard-workiug, honest, industrious woman, who was deserving of their heartiest sympathy. It waa decided to open a subscription list, and the following gentlemen were appointed to collect donations in their appointed localities : — ' ■*** Olarendon ; Messrs H. M. Driver and VV. Hare. Milburn ; Messrs M. Henderson and M. Finoh. Lovells Flat; Messrs R. Hewitson aud W. Hewitson. South Tokomairiro ; Messrs Martin and Gannon. Table Hill ; Messrs A. Forsyth and J. M'Leod. Down River ; Messrs T. Falconer and C. Guthrie. Glenore and Adams Flat ; Messrs Hanley, P. Maley, and Lowery. - \2outhbridge ; Messrs J. Boyle and D. Tweedie. Olarksville ; Mr J. Tough. Fairfax ; Messrs Dooley, Doocey, and M'Pherson. Milton; (south end) Messrs Moore and Scanlan : (north end) Messrs Duthie and D. Reid. Akatore ; Mr Noble. Waihola ; Mr Crane. After Mr D. Reid had been appointed treasurer, the subscription list was opened and the sum of £37 153 was subscribed by those present. 0, _
