Milton Cricket Club

The annual meeting of the above Club was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening, and proved a most enthusiastic one, the Attendance being very large, larger, in fact, than for many years past, and the enthusiasm displayed by those present, and the keen' competition evinced by members for a •eat on the management committee augurs well for the future good management of the Club and for its •access in the field. Mr W. Moore, president of the Clnb, occupied the chair, and there were 30 members present. The •ecretary, Mr A. Parlane read the minutes of the last annual meeting, which, were confirmed. The annual report as already published in our columns was then submitted to the meeting, along with the following balance-sheet : — BKCEIPTS.

The President, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Said that the present one was a duty that gave him more pleasure to move than usually falls to the lot of chairmen in iike positions. The balancesheet as read was a moßt exhaustive one, and he was quite sure that 'every shilling had been accounted for. He thought that the fact of the Club having started the season with a debit balance ol £7 and finished up with a credit balance of £12 ought to be most gratifying to all concerned. There could be no doubt that locally more life had been infused into the game, and he hoped that it would long continue. He was sure that no game had yet been produced which was so scientific and manly, and gave at the same time plenty of. exercise, as cricket. His ambition would be to see one or two members from the Milton Club selected to visit England in a year or two, and he was sure that the proapecfc held forth would prove a great inducement to the players to go in for play and practice. — (Laughter.) He therefore without further remark wouid move the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Mr Brownlee seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. The election of office-bearers was then proceeded with and resulted as followa: — Patron, Mr James Allen» M.H.E. ; president, Mr W. Moore, {jre-eleoted^ j -vice presidents, Ateaers £>. Beid, J. W. Peirie, andDr Sutherland > Secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Parlane (re-elected) ; practice captain, Mr R. Lockharc (re-elected) ; deputy. Mr J. White; general coamuttee, Messrs W. Walker, A. E. Stewart, J. Brownlee, T. Johnatone, T. Lockliart ; delegate to the Association, Mr J. Wuice. MV A. Parlane moved that the election of captain be lei '• to the selected players. — An 'amendment that the captain be elected at the aunual meeting was lost and the motion carried. STJBSCEIPTION. A discussion took place on the subject of the fee to be charged for membership and ultimately the following motion was carried — " That the admission fee for seniois be 7a 6d, juniors (under 18) sa, and for i-choolboys 2a 6d. GENEEAL. The first Satmday in October was fixed for the opening day. ■, Dr Sutherland thought that a deputy captain should be elected who would look after the inteieam of the juniors* The juDiors h..d iv the paßt been much neglected, and be thought that as they were the members to whom the welfare of tbe Club would be entrusted in the ■, future they Bhould be encouraged : ** mnch pa possible th« eewop,

Several speakers having proposed various methods of assisting the juniors, Mr Farlane said he thought that they were going the wrong way about fostering junior cricket. His idea of assistiug the juniora would be for them to instruct their delegate to ask the Association to provide matches among junior clubs, and he would move a motion-to that effect. After Borne discussion it *as resolved that the delegate be instructed to bring up the matter of instituting junior contests among second elevens, and to give it his support. The president said that the present seemed a most oppertuue time for anyone desirous of giving any small donationa towards the Club funds to do so. He begged to intimate tbat he would present the Club with the best bat that he could procure for competition, the conditions &0., to be left to the committee. — (Applause) . Mr Waters thought that the Club ought to place on record their appreciation of the efforts of the secretary for the success of the Club. When he took office, the Club was certainly in a bad way, and the tact that the Club had a most successful year, and that their finances were in each a buoyant state was duo entirely to their worthy secretary and treasurer. — (Applause). Mi Anderson and Mr Moore having endorsed the remarks of the previous epeaker, the motion was carried amid applause. Mr Fat lane briefly responded, and said tbat he would always be willing to do his besc for cricket as long as he remained in Milton. LADT MEMBERS. Dr Sutherland brought up the matter of allowing ladies to join the Club. Mr Moore thought that no charge should be made for lady members; which was carried. The matter of colors was left to the general committee. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
