Since 'then,' however,'; he had witihdrafyn'hi3 .objections, and' the contract /was now being proceeded with. /, The Clerk also . stated that he had .received the agreements from Mr Sutherland indemnifying the Bo^rd from all damage jhait might occur from their dam at Nuggety } and that the document was properly stamped and signed. COEEESPONDEIsrOE. Mr Henry Clark wrote stating that some time ago he waited on the Board and asked them to take such action as would secure for him a road through Mr Tulloch's to his farm at Glenore. Since then several letters had passed between the Board and himself, but nothing had been done by the Board that had the effect of giving him a road to his property. The last letter he had from the Board was dated 9th February, 1899, informing him that the Board would form a boundary through Tulloch's as soon as they had got a transfer of the road (the enclosed letter). As the road in question had been formed and had been in use for over 20 years, he asked for a legal right to use it, but as he got no further information he came to the conclusion that the Board had abandoned the idea of taking further action in the matter. Since then he had sold his property. As it was necessary that the purchaser should have access te it through Tulloch's, he had arranged with him to transfer the closed roadline between his property and the reserve to the purchaser of his late property. This was the only agreement that could be arrived at, and he hoped it would be satisfactory as the present road which the Board had formed gave access to the adjoining property. — Received. A letter was read from Mr L. M'Donald asking the Board to put some gravel on the road near his property, as it was in a very bad state. Moved by Mr Craig, seconded by M r Lowery, that the Board's inspector be instructed to look into the matter and have the work done if necessary. Mr Hitchon moved as an amende ment that the matter be included in the ordinary surfacing work. — Seconded by Mr Palmer. The motion was carried by three votes to two. The Chairman then moved that a rate of Jd in the £ be struck on all rateable property in tbe Mount Stuart Boad Board district. — Seoonded by Mr Lowery. Mr Palmer asked what credit balance the Board had in the Bank, He thought it was a considerable amount. The Clerk said he could not state the exact amount as he had not made enquiries of late. Mr Flett moyed as an amendment that a general rate of § of a penny in the £ be struck, and that the matter be held over for consideration till next meeting. He thought that wp quite sufficient, as, the majority of the ratepayers had already plenty to contend' with. — Seconded by Mr Palmer, The Chairman j I am afraid we can't do that after the amendment you have moyed. Mr Flett : Then I will withdraw my amendment, and move that the matter be held over for consideration until next meeting, when a fuller attendance of members can be relied on. Mr Craig's motion, on being put to.the meeting, was carried by .three votes to two. A discussion on the legality of ratingmining property such as reefing, sluicing, &c, onthe'same scale as^the, dredges received pretty lengthy f ; cpn}[ sideration, but eventually lapsedvwantJ of interest in the subject. ; . Mr Hitchon moved that the clerk pall for tenders for a supply of main?, tenanee meta} and gravel for'the*; gravelling and metalling of " Camerons" road.— Seceded by Mi; Lowery and carried.- \ r ' ' .. r ".'l ff.'W Mr Flett called attention to the yz&yf in which contracts were allowed to rhn on, ; and moved that ... -in <i uture all gi^essful contra£to:rs a#' tenderers;, sign the plans and specifications, and thai the work be carried out in the specked t}me. Accounts amounting to .£1 14s were pas.sj'ti far payment.
