VITALITY OF SEED.
There is a great difference in different plants in regard to the vitality of the seed. Some retain the power to germinate a long time. Lettuce eeed, where well kept, ia good for several years. Beet seeds are good for eight or ten years, when kept properly. Cabbage, kali, radish, tomatoes, spinach, turnips, asparagus, cauliflower, beans, and peas are good from four to five years. Pumpkins, cucumber and melon are good for eight years. Onions and like seed are not to be relied upon after the second year. They should not be used the second year if fresh ones can be had. Melon and cucumber seeds two or three years old are more fruitful than fresh, but makes a less growth of vine. In most other cases fresh seed is beat.
