The annnal meetiug of householder-* of the above distriot was held in the school on Monday evening at 7 30. A very moderate attendance of, householders present ; Mr J. L Newbigging waa voted to the chair. The annual report for the yoar was read | M nnder : I In submitting the annual report for '97 '98, we have to state that we commenced the year with a oredit balance of £2 4-* 7d and closed with a oredit balanse of £.7 6s 6d, M per balance sheet dnly credited. The annnal examination took place as usual, with very satisfactory results, 100 per oent having passed ; the inspector's report in all subject bearing the words "good," "very good," and "excellent" Tbe breaking-up ceremony at the Xmas holidays was attended by a large number of the parents and friends of the pupils, when all expressed themselves as highly pleased with the creditable manner in which the pupils acquitted themselves, reflecting great oredit on teacher and pupils alike. The attendance has been ve-y satisfactory, the average being olose np to the numbers on tho roll. The inspeotor paid a surprise visit, shortly after the school opened, and expressed himself as bsing thoroughly satisfied aa to the method of teaching carried «n in the school by tbe teacher. The income and expenditure are dnly set out in the balance sheet, which is open for inspect! n. After the adoption of report and balancesheet the Chairman oalled for nominations for the new Committee, first signifying that he was not a candidate for re election. Tbe following were then nominated : Messrs John Allison, A- Allison, R. Robinion, J. Blaokie, D. Clark, and G. T. MartinThere being no more than the required Dumber nominated, tbe Chairman deolared the above seven dnly eleoted. Before the meeting closed, Mr G. T. Martin said the least tht-y could do was to accord a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr Newbigging, the retiring ohairman. Daring the Bis or seven years Mr Newbigging had been ohairman of thiß School Committee, he waa untiring in his efforts to promote the well being of the sohool and all connected with it. He was aorry Mr Newbigging had deoided to retire, aa it would be difficult to find another to take tbe same interest as Mr Newbigging had done. Mr Newbigging thanked those present for the vote of thanks just passed. He aaid anything he had done in connection with the aohool was a labor of love. fl» aaid he had also to thank them for the courtesy extended to him, while he had aoted lathe capacity of chairman, and be hoped the aame court* ay would be extended to bis ancoeißor.
