(Reuter's Special.) Sydney, June 5. In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Coonan brought forward charges tantamount to the implication of acts of corruption against Judge Meynott. Ministers promised that a commission should be appointed to inquire into the matter. The police are out after the Quirindi Bank robbers, but up to the present have found no trace of the culprits. The ne*.v Licensing Bill passed its second reading in the Legislative Assembly last night without a division.
Melbourne, Juno 4. The debate in the Assembly on the Reform Bill continues. There are increasing doubts whether the Government will obtain an -jibsolute majority of the House in favour of the measure at the second reading, which is expected to take place on June 10th. Should the statutory majority not be obtained, a dissolution of the Assembly is certain to come about. The barque Madras has arrived from Java, She caught fire off the Leuwin, but it was extinguished without much difficulty. A portion of the cargo was damaged, and a further quantity was jettisoned. It is now stated that Laycock has no intention of rowing in Eugland. June 5. Government are making extensive reductions in the staff of the Lands Department. The Sugar Company has reduced it3 price by from 20s to 40s per ton all round.
Brisbane, June 4. Mr Habeor succeeds Mr Pring as AttorneyGeaeral. Queensland, Jnne 4. A new trial has been granted in the case of Brookes v Swanwick, in which the plaintiff, a prisoner, sued for £150 given in charge of the defendant when the latter undertook to defend him on hia trial. In the first trial a verdict was given for the plaintiff.
