CONFEDERATE DIORAMA OF THE AMERICAN WAR.
Mr H. J. Whittington, the advance agent of the above well-known and popular Exhibition, arrived in Milton last night, and immediately set to work actively, making arrangements for its appearance at St. George's Hall on the evenings of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 17th, 18th, and 19th. We understand also that it is the intention of the management to give a midday ' performance on Saturday afternoon for the convenience of school children. The Confederate Diorama may be classed as one of the most successful entertainments travelling. Since it was last shown here, it has been exhibited in the leading cities of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, and South and Western Australia for upwards of 1000 nights, and, according to exchanges to hand, has met with entire approbation of press and public. Mr R. George, the new proprietor, deserves great credit and praise, for the spirit and enterprise he has shown in catering for the public amusement. There are several pleasant adjuncts to the Diorama, among which may be mentioned the clever and amusing performances of Lieutenant Hermau, a Mimic and Ventriloquist of great merit j and last, but not least, we must not forget one great speciality for which this entertainment stands unrivalied, namely, the distribution to the audience nightly of some really valuable gifts. The. Company landed at the Bluff from Australia a few weeks ago, and are now en route for Dunedin. During their stay in Invercargill, the theatre was densely crowded nightly, and great excitement prevailed when the time drew near for the presents to be given away — the latter amounting in value to overA'2oo, during the time the Show was on view in that city. We are reliably informed that the. Proprietors intend acting as liberally, in proportion to their patronage in this town. So it behoves all lovers of amusement to rally up and attend this world-famous Exhibition.
