THE PROPERTY TAX.
The public meeting which was called to be held ia St. George's Hall last night, was crowded, fully 300 people being present. The Chairman of the Bruce County Council, Mr Henry Clark, presided, the Zuayor of Milton having declined to take the Chair. On the platform were the Mayor, Messrs P. Cunninghame, Kobert Murray, James Adam, and Edward Marryatt. Pressure on our advertising columns prevents us giving a full account of the meeting until our next issue. In the meantime we give the three resolutions which were passed, as follows : — 1. That in the opinion of this meeting, the Property Tax is an unjust, iuquisitorial, expensive, and distasteful Act, and therefore ought to be at once repealed. 2. That, in the opinion of this meeting, other sources of revenue might he adopted to meet the deficiencies— such as the reduction of public expenditure ; the re-imposition of tea and sugar duties ; the re-imposing of school fees ; that subsidies to Jocal bodies should cease, and, if need be, an Income Tax be imposed. 3. That copies of the resolutions passed be forwarded to the Hon. Premier, and the member for Bruce, requesting the latter to support them, and to do all in his power to see them carried into effect.
