The Viceroy bas informed the Maharajah of Cashmere that be will accept his offer of service if the war continues beyond the
spring. The Kyber tribes eeriously annoy tbe convoys, and an expedition sent to punish them destroyed several villages.
There bave been numerous desertions from the Affgban army. The Affgban prisoners are employed in roadmaking at Gumevoa.
The healh of tbe European troops is good, but the Datives suffer from cold. There is gr.-at mortality amongst the baggage camels, but supplies are coming forward freely. The Ameer's officer, Mira Khan, who insulted Major Cavaguari afc Peshawa-, by threatening to shoot him, fled and afberwatdj poisoned himself,
Military opeiations have been suspended on account of tbe winter. Generals Roberts ann Browne are securing the positions they have won.
There is great commercial depression at Bombay.
