On dit that another evening paper will be started in Invercargill shortly. A siding is being put into the companys ground at Edendale, from wbere it is said the company purpose sending live and dead stock to Dunedin so soou as the line is opened through. The assent of the governor to the construction of the Waimea Plains Railway, under the D ; s riot Railways Act, was gazetted on the 27 th ult. Several uew buildings have been erected in Wyndham recently, aud others are in course of const* uetion. Very high prices are now asked for sections in this thriving township, which a few years siuce were bought for almost a song. Tne Suez mail closes iv the Mataura District, on Friday next, the 17th inst., as follows. Gore, and Mataura Bridge 5 p.m, Wyndham, 4.30 p.m. Afc Fortrose on Thursday, Chatton, Waikaka, and Waikaia, Friday morning. Tbe opening of through railway communication with Dunedin is not yet fixed. Mr Blair, the engineer iv charge of the Middle Island railways, accompanied by Mr Ussher, Resident Engineer, on Tuesday inspected the line from Balclutha, to Clinton, and found it generally in good order. The Editois of the Timaru Herald, and Temuka Leader, are on the war path, and a big battle is beiug fought. The little 'un is standing his ground well. They died from the effects cf the injuries received. It is surprising an accident did not take place. When a Governor or some Minister of the Crown is killed, then we may expect the lines to be fenced in.
