A Ferocious Duel.
A duel of extraordinary ferocity was fought the other day at Bodie, Mono (County, California. Two men named Brasian and Blair, who had for some time been in partnership in a business of mining and prospecting, fell out in a bar-room respecting the terms' 6T a certain location which- they- -Lad ] recently made. Brasian, in the course o£ the dispute, affirmed that he was " chief partner" in the concern, a claim '"which Blair? resented, at the time expressing his readiness to fight Brasian at any distance from " a handkerchief length" ta forty paces. Brasian at once 4ccep^-''the :^inyitiatior(;--- : - ; His 'pistol and belt were lying on" the- floor close by^.hiin and he mereljr&Sked for time to' "heel himself" accord^ he : buckled on u 'nis belt and ;^ hie was ". ready." The tw6"jpartiier4 then went out into the street, appearing, it is stated, " more ' pleasantly, disposed towards one another than they had been any time during the day." Placing themselves less than eight feet apart, at a signal given they bothered effectively^ Blair being struck in the shoulder and Brasian. in the side. After the first shot they fired rapidly until their revolvers, each a six shooter, had been'^tirely emptied. When the teinoke cleared away the two men were seen alive but apparently riddled with shot and covered with blood. 'Neither of them ' was, . however, satisfied with the result. Bvasian staggered to the bar-room to borrow another pistol, while Blair, more fortunate obtained the loan of one from an acquaintance on the spot. Following '■" poor blundering Brasian" in the bar-TOom; -Blair, shot him dead before he had; time to get a second pistol. After firing this last shot Blair sank on the floor fainting from loss ~ of blood. He was at once removed to the cabin of a friend, where he met with every attention, but, having received- four dangerous wounds, he was by latest 'accounts considered to be in a precarious condition. The momentaiy irritation which led to the duel having passed off Blair seemed to feel deeply the loss of his partner.
