MILTON.

The "regular fortnightly n^eqting of the Milton' Town Coqnc.il waa held on Wednesday evening. There were present the ' Mayor (Mr R. W. Capstick)in the chaic, and Messrs D. Reid, R. R. Jones, Dyer^ Stewart^ tyud. M'Laren, the engineer (&{r. I BJ. Brown), and tha glerk (\%r Thiimaa Brook?), The Underr^eeretary (Mr G. S Copper) wrote forwarding a. qony o| the * Garotte' prop?«viming Milfon & borough. Jt was pointed out that the Governer had proclaimed portion only of the. t°vrn. a munielpality. It was rpsojved^n the motion of Mr Jones, seconded by Mr Dyer, that the Clerk forward to the Colonial Secretary % correct description of

the boundaries of iViilum, an<ilo request that a correct description be gazetted.

Mr J. A. Datbie wrote : '* Tn order that the mat tor b& settled at once, I beg to suggest that I be allowed to erect the weighbridge on the following, conditions, namely : (1) That the Council shall have the option of taking it at valuation at anytime ; (2) should it not give satisfaction I will undertake to remove it on receiving notice ; (3) that the charge be 6d per ton until a bye-law is passed which need not be done until the machine is proved to have, given satisfaction,' and other reason able conditions which . the Counci I' wish inserted. : By this the Oonriotl wilt not be bound in any way, as the whole responsibility will fall upon me."— Resolved— That the offer be accepted, and that his Worship and the mover be a 'committee to select the site.

It appeared that the Committee who had in view, the obtaining of an endowment of two thousand acres for the town of Milton were giving the .greatest attention to the matter. ' ' ■ -' '■■■'.' ■„■■;-/ : ■ ; '-

The question of compelling owners of sections now uufenced to fence them, was allowed to lieover till next meeting.

Cr Reid intimated that lie intended moving that the Council should be provided with a safe and a copying press. He considered these requisites should. have been provided years ago.
