THE NORWOODS AND VON ARX HUGE COMBINED SHOWS

In the .Municipal Theatre on Tuesday nextj April 23, the Norwoods and Von a vs. Hugo combined stiows will appear. They are at present showing in tho Opera House vVellington, where they have done phenomenal business during the whole of the Easter season. Speaking of the company, The New Zealand Herald, Auckland, says:- - The science and art of hypnotism is one of which comparatively nothing is known as yet. It seems to be an established fact that there are some persons, who, by mere strength of will, can wield such an influence over their fellows that they can command tho performance of almost any act. It is the possession of this strange faculty on which Professor Norwood relies to amuso such a largo audience as gathered last night in tho Town Hall to witness his opening performances in tho city. It must truthfully be said that there some features about it which ga>o some suggestions of those things which were not dreamt of in tho philosophy of Horatio. For instance the. professor put Miss Norwood into what he called the "hypnotic state." While she sat on the stage blindfolded, he moved about in ih" audience, members of winch \\ •ro asked to name tests to which tho young lady should be put. Sin; then came down off the stage • still blindfolded), and faithfully r.a : neJ out those tests, not a word tiem% exchanged between herself and the hypnotist. On returning ta the Post Office a member of tho committee hid a pen-knife in a hawker's barrow. Proessor Norwood, then mounted the vehicle with the committee, and with his eyes securely blindfolded drove over the route ..which' had already been traversed by the committee. He dodged the traffic in a bewildering manner. A tramcar would appear to be running the vehicle down, when the. professor, with a dexterous turn of the ribbons, would guido it into safely. On one part of tho route there was some dangerous excavation work, hut this was ■ also negotiated safely. On his return to the Post Office, Mr Norwood (still blindfolded 1 ) sot about finding the pen-knife, in which he was successful.
