CRICKET.

AUSTRALIA WINS FIRST TEST MATCH. [press association.] CBRISTCHURCH, March 15. The Australians compiled the necessary runs to win the match—lo9 with the loss of one wicket. The scores were—Mayne (not out) 75, Bardsley (b Bennett) 6, Simpson (not out) 20. Word Avas received by the Cricket Sub-Association secretary (Mr W. O. Cailender) this morning, that the King Country Cricket Association has found that it is unable to get a representative team aAvay during the Easter holidays, and consequently stating its inability to play the local reps, on the day arranged for, Easter Monday. The match Avill therefore not take place, and the only representative match during the holidays Avill be that against the Akitio Association on the Saturday preceding Easter Sunday. It is probable, hoAvever, that a team sufficiently strong to play club matches Avill be in these parts during Easter, and will be open* to play any of the local clubs on Good Eriday, Saturday, and Easter Monday. Clubs on the lookout for a game on any of these days should correspond Avith Mr G. L. Winger, Taumarunui. On Saturday next, on the Dannevirke Domain, Greek meets Greek, when the Ormondville and Dannevirke A teams meet. Great interest is being taken in this match, as the holding of the shield depends on it. Should DanneA r irke Avin, then the season is as far as the ownership of the shield is concerned, but should Ormondville come out on top, things Avill be very interesting, for that club has still to meet NorseAvood, and" if NorseAvood managed to turn the tables on Ormondville this round, then Ave should sew the three teams, Dan-r nevirke A, Ormondville, and Norseivood all level for first place, as they were at the end of the first round. Neither Dannevirke nor Ormondville have yet held the shield, and it Avould be for the good of the sport if one of these teams were to win.
