THE MATCH POSTPONED

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

Rain commenced early this morning and fell heavily till noon, putting an end to all hope of continuing the test match this afternoon. If the rain clears off, it may be resumed tomorrow morning. T. Warne, a member of the Australian team, who lias charge of the Carlton ground, says Dunedin has provided the only good wicket of the tour. He says t'here is no need to import soil; to make wickets in New Zealand. The soil is good enough, but care should be taken with the foundation. He thinks New Zealand cricket is likely to make no marked improvement until good wickets are provided. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Rain ceased soon after noon.
