The match was resumed in fine Aveather, with a strong north-east wind blowing across the track. The wicket is fast. Armstrong and Warne resumed the Australians' innings, Oliff opening to Armstrong and Haddon bowling at the other end. The batsmen opened confidently, and gave a pretty display between the wickets, for singles. With the score at 224, Oliff bowled Armstrong, 224—5—72. The... bowling was good, and riyns came slowly. At 233 Bennett was tried, and runs still came slowly. The runs were kept down and at 261 Bennett bowled Warne and seven runs later he also got Hopkins, the newcomer, 268—7—5. At the lunch adjournment the score stood at 269 for seven wickets. The New Zealand fielding was bright and the bowling more stirring than yesterday.
