ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
[PBESB ASSOOIAIION,] WELLINGTON, to-day. The Council of the Amateiir Athletic Association 'has decided to institute a cross-country championship, distance five miles, for individuals in teams. The latter to be of five members, and four to count. The championship is to be offered this year to Canterbury, and to be run at Timaru in I August. It was decided to ask every centre to contribute £15 to the expenses of a team of not less than six men to represent xs ew Zealand at the Australasian championships in Brisbane. The balance-sheet was received from the old Christchurch Council, showing a credit of £16 9s sd. ' After hearing Mr Coombes on the subject, a subcommittee was appoint-ed-to go into the question of representation at the' Olympic games. The Council decided to report on a movement to bring Walker, the South African champion, over, ac- | companied by another athlete— a hurdler or sprinter.
