A JUDICIAL PROT ECT.
LONDON, yesterday. Lord Alverstone, speaking at the Lord Mayor's dinner to tlie judges, significantly declared that the peorde might rely on the' protection \of the judges in an Imperial construction of Acts of Parliament. He added that if any change was required, it ought to be by Act of Parliament, not by an official. This alludes to the commissioner to whom alone under Mr Lloyd-George's Budget bill taxpayers will be allowed to appeal against arbitrary assessments.
