MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors in the estate of W. F. Greenaway was held this morning in the D.O.A.'s office. Mr Givrr, D.0.A., presided, and the following creditors were' represented: Mr E. A. Ransom, A. L. Gordon, D.C.A. (Mr S. Ashcroft), Danuevirko Sawmilling Co., Palmerston North Sash and Door Factory, E. O. Austin, Williams and Kettle (Mr Hawkins), and E. V. Mekeever. ■ ■ . . Mr E. 0. Hurley (Palmerston. N.) was present on behalf of the petitioning creditors, and Mr Lloyd on behalf of the bankrupt. After the confirmation of the minutes a general discussion ensued upon .matters relative to the bankruptcy. .Mr Austin mentioned that he had never been paid the dividend authorised by the meeting of creditors in 1904. Mr Hurley questioned tlve D.O.A. on matters in connection with Mr Patterson's claim. Mr Lloyd explained the matter at length, and the D.0.A. , said he did not" think. .Mr Patterson's claim could be admitted. At the time it cropped up before, Mr Irvine had been instructed to go into the matter, and he reported that Mr Patterson owed the estate £800: This Mr Patterson subseqiiently paid, and now he was claiming for the amount. Mr Hurley asked for information in regard to the claim Mrs Greenaway had against the estate. The D.0.A., in reply, said that Mrs Greenaway had obtained an or- v der under the Destitute Persons Act, ordering the estate to pay her £1 per week. Mr Lloyd thought this would act as a preferential claim against the estate. Mr Hurley differed in this opinion, talcing the attitude if tliat were so j it would pay a man to desert his wife ' before filing, so that she could come . in and claim against the estate. | "Don't you know," said Mr Lloyd, , "that the law is a 'hass' ?" j Mr Hurley said he had never found j it so. Ma- Lloyd, in answer to questions, said all the titles to sections, etc., were in. 'his office. The books kept by Mr ISade were also there. He required them for a week or two in connection with the matter of Greenaway and Lloyd and Greenaway and Henderson. Mr Lloyd intimated, that 'everything possible for him to do in connection with the ««tate for the D.O.A.'s guidance .would be done. The D.O.A. intimated that the total liabilities amounted to £3843, and assets to £1383. Mr Lloyd handed in a bank book, dated from January, 1903, to September, 1907, and numerous formal papers. On the motion of Mr Austin, seconded by Mr Moellor, it was resolved that Mr Hurley be appointed solicitor to the D.0.A., in connection with the bankruptcy. After a; further general discussion, the meeting adjourned.
