DOMESTIC SCIENCE.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, last night. Mr John Studholme, of Coldstream', wrote to tho Otago University Council offering £200 a year for three years to endow a- chair of : domestic science in Otago University,-, the first payment to be made as soon as the professor actually takes up the position. Stipulations which lie make? are that a cliair of domestic science, ', and not a mere lectureship be established, that a fully qualified professor he appointed, antl that the council use their best elideayors to get a course in, domestic sciencw admitted by the Senate of the. New Zealand University. : Some time since a similar offer was made to Canterbury, Col-lege,-but the authorities; after giving the matter lengthy consideration, and entering into negotiations with Miss Gil christ, hi Tennessee University, decided not to entertain the proposal! The Otago University Council to-day' spoke very favorably of the offer, but, as Mr Studholme did not seek a filial' answer in November, it , was decided that a sub-committee be appointed to consider the proposal.
