DANNEVIRKE FIRE BOARD.

The quarterly, meeting -of the above Board was held in. the secretary's office last evening. Present: Messrs W. Johnstone (chair), G. Wratt, Simpson, Mallard, Pastor Ries, and W. Dobson (secretary). ■'.- Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Ewen and G. Wright. The Fite^, Brigade reported that Foreman 'Brown v had been appointed caretaker for jbhe r Sigh street north station, and Ipe appointment was confirmed. J " - The appointment of Mr J. MoKearney as a fireman to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Fireman/Whaler, was "also confirmed. The Superintendent, Mr-McMillan^ supplied his usual re.port, Which dealt with formal 1 matters. The only fire of a serio\iß nature for the quarter was that at Mr Gaul ton's,, on the Bth. inst. It was reported that fhe boroiigh is in a satisfactory condition, with the exception of three premises visited, viz., the Drill Hall, Gordon,, Channon and Co.'s Avoodware factory, and the D.C.A. woodware factory. * • A letter signed by. several residents, was received, drawing attention to the unsafe conditions prevailing in consequence of sparks from the destructor at the D.C.A. factory. It was suggested that the superintendent should confer with, the D.C.A. authorities on the matter, with the view of providing a remedy.
