NAPIER, to-day. Thero is a probability of a very closo finish to the Parliamentary contost, which is creating intense excitement, and there is every indication of a record poll being recorded. Motor cars are playing a very prominent pai*t in events, while every cab in the town has been engaged by the liquor party. • HOKITIKA, to-day. " The weather is fine for the polling, but no local interest is shown in the licensing poll by either party. FEILDING, to-day. There is intense interest in the local option poll here, and both sides are at concert pitch. The poll is expected to be the heaviest on record. The day is beautifully fine. DUNEDIN, to-day. The merits of the Parliamentary candidates are scarcely even discussed, and phenomenally heavy polling is anticipated. , WANGANUI ,to-day. There is no very great excitement, so far in the local elections and local option poll. Two of the candidates spoko in front of the main polling booth at noon. The license party have good organisation, and expectan easy win, though the no-license party expect to increase the vote of last year. All vehicles have been brought into requisition, and there will be heavier polling than usual. IN\gERCARGILL, to-day. There is perfect weather, and heavy polling is assured. There is little interest in ' the Parliamentary election at Invercargill, for which Mr Ha nan is expected to score a large majority. The No-license party is sanguine of success in Awarua and Wallace, in both of which electorates ■their organisation is perfect. Outside local option interest centres in the Mataura contest, which is certain to be very close. Tho Premier is likely to have a big majority in Awarua. WELLINGTON, to-day. Up till mid-day tho voting was steady, but the city was not excited. The people had fine weather for polling, and took their time about the process. Heavy polling, however, is expected, especially in the Central electorate, where a straight-out duel j between Hislop and Fisher has excited keen interest. Although in- J terest in the local option poll has not upset Wellington's: balance in tho open it is known that both sides havo been working very energetically. The No-license party is confident of carrying reduction in the city and Wellington South. Enthusiasts also say that no-license may be carried in the Hutt arid Wellington suburbs!" '• - '
