••/— — : ♦ . ■ ■ [OWN CORRESPONDENT.] " On Friday evening last the ladies of the district gave a dance, which was most enjoyable. A very large number of people turned out in response to the invitations. Songs at intervals during the evening were sung by Mrs Hallan, Mr Stafford and others. The music. for dancing was supplied by Messrs Hunt and Gilbert, and Mr Thgtmas acted as M.C. The arrangements were in the hands of Mrs Thomas and the Misses Porteous and Gayne, who are to be heartily -congratulated on the manner in which they were carried out. The residents are now taking a little more interest in politics, or rather the politicians are beginning to take ' a little more interest in us. The . No-licenke League' led off by sending a canvasser through. Mr Hawkins passed through last week, but didn't make any speech, and Mr Ross speaks in the school to-morrow (Tuesday) night: . Docking is now finished throughout the district,? and: although the percentages are 1 not large, the lambs, are very good. Ellingham and Mr C. Lunt are building new shearing sheds. It is to be hoped. the Weber County 'Council will: not neglect the dangerpus corner on the" Oporae Road, hear the .- boundary of • the Akitio County .much longer. With the advent of th©- wool season it is necessary to have :th©' waggons come inj but it is absolutely -imsa'fe for' tliese to negotiate the- corner in its present condition,, .;; '.- . .. ..'.•;;• : : ; .
