Mr H. Tolleyy president of the Wijamber of Commerce, asked forbett.efi facilities on-the railway for trucking fat sheep, pointing- out- the seribii|} nKsonveniehce and loss occasioned; by waiting for trucks.;, -' In reply Sir Joseph Ward said the Department would do all that was possible to'^meet the requirements of the settlers. Increased rolling r stock was bemg provided for the Main Trunk : lijie, which when running woxild help the Department to provide trucks quickly. Mr F. Piranr asked favorable consideration of a proposal to extend the Foxton-Sandon tram, owned by the Manawatu County Council, to Feildiug. He pointed out that the extension would unite by rail two very rich districts. The only difficulty was that it was not a Government line. Sir Joseph Ward replied tKat Government was not favorable to private lines, and mentioned that local bodies' were likely to get themselves into serious positions with these lines. Sir Joseph Ward and .party left here at'lo.'3o" for'Apiti by motor-car. The Premier will officially open the Apiti post-office, and be banquetted there, and return to Feildingat 5.30. Sir Joseph Ward will deliver a policy speech at Feilding to-night.
