CONCERT.

The anual concert of the Roman Catholic Church was held at Ormondville last evening, and as in previous years was ji most pronounced success, both in the -quality of the programme provided aii4 the large attendance. The prommora fully deserved their success as for weeks previously a strong committee had been vigorously at work and all yesterday a large band of workers, both male and female, were engaged decorating arranging the tables, and otherwise getting things into, shape. Owing to there being no mention of tie names of the songs given on the pro^gramme our representative was unable to get the titles of all the items. Mr J. Brandon, of Jtfakotuku, presided, and made a most capable chairman. The programme opened with a pianoforte overture by Mrs Oswald and Miss Shand, "II Baeio," the item being most skilfully executed; then in order followed a song by Mr F. Olsen, "The Hero," which* was veiy well received; a song Mrs Adams, "Eileen Alannah," whose rich soprano found much favor with the audience, and she had to respond to an encore when she sang, "No, Sir"; song, Mr M . Maeremai, ' 'Garden of Paradise/ much applauded ; song, Mr E. Hosking, "Mary of Argyll," who was in great form, his" dear tenor voice ringing -through the room, and he nad to respond to the most pressing encore of the evening when he sang "My pretty Jane" ; a vocal quartett by Mrs Adams, Miss Collins and Messrs Whit aker and Adams, "Beam of Light," was very brightly given; a song by Miss Dumpby followed, which was much applauded, ths young lady's singing ahyays meeting with much applause; a song, by Miss Benson, who has a very pretty voice, but stood rather too far book on the stage, and some of the effect was lost; "a well executed Highland fling by Master Skinner; a song by Mrs T. Castles ; a- song by. Mr Adams, "My Irish Molleen," who possess a strong baritone and who in response to a vociferous encore gave "Where are the boys of the old brigade"^ a gong by Miss Collins; a song by. Mr Kelloher, "Father O'Flynn," which was much appreciated;. a song by Mr T. G. Hosking, "The gallants of England" (applauded); a song by Mr L. Wright, sung with energy and heartily applauded; a trio by Mrs Adams and Messrs Adams . and , Whitaker, "Shepherds, tell me," was very well sung; an Irish jig by Mr j. Brandon, who, in this line has few peers in the dominion, '■-.and'- at tire conclusion of the dance was met with tumultuous cries of encore, but the popular Jack was too puffed and could only bow ; song, "Island ,of dreams" by Mr Whitaker, a pretty song nicelly rendered; a song by Miss Gurzinsky, "Hard Times," sung in a clear soprano, the singer having to respond to an. encore when she sang "When the sunset turns the ocean, 1 ! The accompaniments were played,by,Mesdames T. Castles, Oswald, and Hoolihan, Misses M. Olsen, Skinner, W. .^Moroney, F. Brabazon ,and Collins, :and Messrs Adams, E. Hosking, and W. Fitzgerald. '.; At the conchision of the programme Cahill thanked the performers, and those who had attended, and ithe room was then cleared for dancing. When the dancers formed np for the first set, it was seen that thera :Was going to be another large crowd present, the -hall being well filled. The -music, was supplied by Mrs Houlihan, (piano) and Mr Hill (violin), *he duties of M.G. being capably carried ;out by Mr A. Adamson.
