DEATH UNDER CHLOROFORM.

» [press association.] GISBORNE, yesterday. A sudden death occurred at a^ local dental surgery this afternoon, whon Mrs J. B.- Hollier expired whilst under chloroform prior to a dental operation. The deceased, who was about 42 years of age, was examined prior to the administration of the anaesthetic by Dr Collins in presence of Mr Crawford, the dentist, and Mrs Lucas, and, in the opinion of the doctor, the deceased was a fit sxibject for chloroform. A few seconds after the administration of the chloroform, the doctor noticed that the pupils of the eyes were dilated, and that other inlications of heart failure were apparent. He at once applied restorative measures. The patient recovered a little, and almost immediately collapsed. Death is attributed to' heart failure. An inquest will be held.
