THE BOROUGH DEADLOCK.

As many ratepayers are anxious to know in what positionu the boroiigh deadlock now stands, the following letter received by Cr Ransom from Messrs Skerrett and Wylie, solicitors, for the councillors, sufficiently explains the delay which has taken place in bringing the matter before the court : — "Dear Sir, — "We obtfined a fixture for this case for v Saturday, the 11th inst., subject to this date being suitable to Mr D. M. Findlny, the solieitox- for the defendant. tJnfortunately Mr Findlay was unable to proceed on that date owing to his having toleave for Auckland, and also he informed us that he could, not hand his brief to any one else as he had been unable, through the defendant's illness, to prepare his affidavits in reply, and consequently the brief waa not ready. We could not possibly force the case on as no appointment is made during the Court of Appeal except by consent of both parties. This we could not obtain. We will endeavor to get a date fixed as soon as possible and will duly notify you j thereof."
