CORRESPONDENCE.

_+ The Kiritaki Tests. (To the Editor.) Sii!,— D^ar, dear .' Have I run my poor head against another official of the H.B. Company ? What a dreadfully thmskinned lot they must be ! This time it is no less a person than the official tester of the company who takes offence at my remarks, and devotes about half a column to the defence of his honesty, which delicate organism (is it an organism or a microbe ?) was never attacked, as far as I can see. When I write my notes, if there is nothing startling, such as any murders or elopements, or high class scandals to report, I just put down the talk of the placethat is, the place where men do congregate — and there has been a good deal of grumbling about the test, and the suppliers have wondered why they should have had lower than last year's — in some cases to the extent of 2 or 3 points lower. As for anyone specially asking me to say so, why, of course they didn't. I don't suppose any of them would be so mean as to hrfte behind a poor country correspondent. I did hear of one man who spoke of writing to the manager about it, but I don't know whether he did so or not So altogether I don't see why Mr McDonald, even if he is the official tester, should worry himself into imagining attacks on his character which don't exist. Perhaps lie is in a lovv state of health and wants toning up. A trip to the Inhibition might prove beneficial ; one is apt to get morbid and "testy" when his health is run down. As for my reinurk about the "gilt off the gingerbread," 1 merely stated a selfeyident fact, and had no intention of insinuating anything against Mr McDonald's probity, so I hope his wounded dignity will soon heal up. — I am, etc., KIUITAKI CORRESPONDENT.
